The U.S. Green Building Council recently announced that LEED version 4 will go into effect this fall. LEED v4 includes many improvements and revisions that make Momar Greenaction™ products and AquaTrol® water treatment programs eligible to earn LEED credits.

LEED credits for existing buildings are broken down into several categories, each with specific criteria.  Under LEED v4, there are four main areas where Greenaction cleaning products and AquaTrol water treatment programs can team up to help earn a combined total of 8 LEED credits.

EPA Safer Choice Program certified Greenaction cleaning products can help buildings earn up to 3 LEED credits under the Indoor Environmental Quality category, Green Cleaning subcategory. Momar’s Greenaction product line is a comprehensive line of green cleaning and maintenance products that were developed in partnership with the EPA’s Safer Choice Program. Products that are recognized by the EPA Safer Choice Program are proven to improve indoor air quality compared to conventional products because they are formulated with ultra-low levels of volatile organic compounds, they contain no fragrances, and they do not require the use of respiratory protective equipment.

AquaTrol water treatment programs can help buildings earn up to 5 LEED credits under the Water Efficiency and Solid Waste Management categories:

  • 2 credits in the Water Performance Measurement subcagetory:
    • 1 credit when AquaTrol specialists install a water meter on the building for incoming potable water.
    • 1 credit when AquaTrol specialists install permanent sub-metering devices on one or more of the following:  cooling towers, irrigation water, process water, and indoor plumbing and fixtures.
  • 2 credits in the Cooling Tower Water Management subcategory:
    • 1 credit when AquaTrol specialists develop and implement a water management program for the cooling tower, thereby improving efficiency and increasing and maintaining proper cycles, reducing blow down, and installing conductivity meters and automatic controls for feed.
    • 1 credit when AquaTrol specialists reduce the potable water used for cooling tower make-up by at least 50%.  This would be done by using non-potable water such as captured rain water or recycled water. A secondary use for cooling tower blow down water, such as restroom toilets and urinal flush water, will also be considered.
  • 1 credit in the Solid Waste Management subcategory:
    • 1 credit for a 50% reduction in waste disposed of in landfills or incineration.  AquaTrol’s SimpleSolid™ product line can significantly reduce the volume of waste.  Conventional liquid chemistries shipped in 55 gallon drums can now be replaced by a single 4/1-gallon case of solid feed chemistry.  Not to mention that SimpleSolid jugs are recyclable.  Also add the fact that the carbon footprint is reduced with solid feed chemistry because the shipping weight of a 500 pound drum of liquid is now replaced by a 40 pound case.
Momar Greenaction cleaning products and AquaTrol water treatment programs will help building managers and facility directors earn these 8 LEED credits.  Earning these credits can be crucial to the success in achieving and maintaining LEED certification.
